Workshop
Information...
Performing longform solo improv is an incredible - and incredibly fun - test for a performer. Dribble Funk workshops introduce the performer to this unique and challenging form of improvisation as a form of pure PLAY. Seeking to unleash the performer's imagination, creativity and self-expression McEntire leads anyone willing to learn through the process of solo improvisation. The exercises and character work condition the performer to take complete responsiblity on stage, to deepen and enhance their characters, and to discover narrative plots and character connections that move and involve the audience. All this while still keeping the improv set fun and light in nature. Participants will develop a new set of technical skills, a new level of purpose and sense of commitment in performance, and will improve their ability, speed and momentum in initiating engaging situations onstage that in turn, bring to life a full-bodied improvised story. And have a blast doing all this!
WHAT
IS A DRIBBLE FUNK? Dribble Funk is a completely improvised (i.e. NOT
scripted) solo performance format developed by Brad McEntire originally in early
2005. The piece can last up to 50 minutes, and starts with either a short, informal
Q and A with an audience member or a one-word suggestion. This chat or suggestion
becomes the fodder for a spontaneous act of pure theatre. During the Dribble
Funk, the solo performer portrays multiple characters in a cascading, interrelated
network of improvised scenes, monologues, songs, abstractions and audience interactions
that evolve into an unexpected multi-arc storyline. The structures and techniques
of the format continue to evolve with each performance, but the Dribble Funk
essentially surfaces in that crossroads between traditional theatre, longform
improvisation and storytelling.

Inspired
by archetypal story structure, cause and effect, contemporary clowning and pure
play we begin to assemble scenes creating full, dynamic stories. The workshop
will focus on the power of repetition, a liberated stage presence, physical
storytelling, scene start initiations such as jump and justify, the multiple
uses of monologue, meaningful audience interaction and basic story structure.
