McEntire-ly Funny

Comedy gets Funked up at the West End

February 9-15, 2006

By Andrea Grimes/ The Dallas Observer

If the Dallas improv scene were a can of green beans (which it isn't), then Brad McEntire would be the Jolly Green Giant. Of course, some non-colorblind people might try to debate the "green" thing, seeing as how McEntire's complexion is decidedly peachy, but he's inarguably jolly. Anyway, towering at 6 feet 3 inches, he's also rather giant. McEntire is frequently seen performing about town, from tiny galleries in Exposistion Park to living rooms at house parties, always trying to get more people to open the aforementioned container of green, Dallas comedic beans. His latest performance, however, is anything but canned. Improv show DRIBBLE FUNK is the creation of McEntire and accompanying musician Jaymes Gregory. The act incorporates a one-man comedy routine by McEntire based entirely on audience suggestions and sound effects, musical interludes and other assorted tomfollery by Gregory. McEntire's knack for creating intricate story arcs, wacky characters and surprise angles on audience suggestions isn't to be missed. The West End Comedy Theatre, 603 Minger St. on the first floor of the West End Marketplace, hosts DRIBBLE FUNK this Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, and reservations can be made at 214-880-9990.
